Hi all.

This is my second game of Civ5 after a long hiatus. Gave up after a couple of games of vanilla just after release (didn't like it at all), and only just back after picking up the expansions in the Steam sale. I have to say that I'm having a lot of fun with the game in its current state.

I have attached my current save game. Was at war with Shaka until he offered me peace for the city of Umgungundlovu, which I accepted. All of the resources around it were pillaged (by me) but I had enough happiness to spare and decided to annex the city. All went well until many turns later when one of the city states wanted me to connect citrus to my trade network. I thought that it was an odd request since I assumed that the source of citrus west of Umgungundlovu already had a repaired plantation on it. I've checked that the city is connected to my capital by road. The strange thing is that the furs to the south west (covered by a camp) are not showing in my luxury resources list either. Is there a rule concerning annexed cities that I'm not aware of? Should I post this as a bug?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.:crazyeye:

The tile SW of the city with a camp is a deer tile, not a fur tile. Deer are a "bonus resource" (provide an extra hammer with a camp), not a luxury resource.

For additional happiness, you should improve the forested silk tile about 5 tiles S of the city. You won't be able to assign a citizen to work that tile, but you will get some hammers from chopping the forest and will get the silk (for happiness and trading purposes) when you plantation that tile.

Thanks for taking a look Browd.

Of course, you are right. The deer are a bonus resource, not a luxury.

I don't think I made myself very clear. I wanted to know why the citrus that I have a plantation on is not showing in my luxury resources list. I don't seem to be receiving the happiness bonus from it either. Any idea why? I have checked that it isn't embargoed from the world council, and there are no active trades. Vatican City and Singapore both want me to connect the citrus to my trade network. Why are the quests not fulfilled at this point?

Good question. The plantation is repaired, and citrus hasn't been banned (only whales have been banned). Even building a citadel on that tile and then rebuilding the citrus plantation doesn't connect the citrus.

Looks like a bug, so I'll move this thread to Bug Reports and see if anyone else has any ideas.

From what I can tell, it's a bug. You've got a plantation on the citrus tile, yet it doesn't show up when you hover Happiness nor in the resource menu. Even if you had traded it away it would still show up in the resource menu.

I tried to remove the plantation and rebuild it. It didn't work.

Also note the the world congress has NOT banned citrus.

After trading so I get Nappys citrus (which cost me 4 cities. lol) it's marked as 'Export'.

I can't think of anything more to do. Checked to see if you had any mods, didn't find any mods. I've never modded CiV so might have missed something there.

Good luck with your game.:)

I fired up IGE, removed the citrus from that tile, then restored the citrus and built a plantation. That worked to connect the citrus, but that's hardly a solution. The problem must have something to do with your pillaging of the tile before conquering that city.

I don't think so. I can't replicate the bug. I have an autosave from 1822AD which is after I annex the city and before I repair the plantation. If you repair the planation, you'll see that the citrus becomes connected using this save. Perhaps a weird save game corruption? HDD write error? I have no idea.

I spent some time last night reloading from autosaves, and I think that I have found the cause of the problem.

At one point there is a Holy Site built on the citrus. I remember that I thought the HS +4 to faith might be better for me than the +1 to gold from the plantation in that city as long as the citrus remained connected to my trade network (which I later found out that it doesn't). That's when I try to rebuild the plantation at the cost of the holy site. This all happened over the course of a few turns. So either building the HS or demolishing it and building the plantation is the cause of the citrus disappearing from the luxury resources list (and the trade network). Interestingly, the tile still yields the bonus to food and commerce as if the citrus were present, but not the luxury availability.
