Help with Resources

I am in the modern ages. I have no oil,rubber, or aluminum. I found those resources on an island but on my advisors screen it shows up that those are only in that one city. I need those resources to get back to my mainland. Someone told me that you could build a bridge over water if you had a worker in a transport. Is that true and if it is how do i do it? I would trade for them but the other civilizations won't trade, even for $5,000 Gold. I need these resources for the Marine, and tank, i would go to war but they heve the resources so they could kick my butt.

Build a city on that island. Build a Harbor or airport there. Build a harbor or airport in one of your other cities. Make sure that the other city connects to the capital.

The key is to connect the city with the resource to the capital.
Then the capital distributes the resource to any connected city.

Harbors connect cities over water. Build a harbor in a port city on the island, and another in a port that is connected to your capitol by road. That will make the resources available to your whole civilization.

You can't build a bridge to my knowledge and I'm almost positive you can't. If you can't get them to trade your only choice may be to go to war.
