ok i am completely new to civ2 and first of all i need to know how i can check what version i have and how can i upgrade my version to one witch can play ALL the scenarios(if thats possible)?

start a game.
hit control+O

across the top of that window is the info..

go to the downloads section

at the bottom you will find Cedric Greene's "convert your version to" update under Patches/Updates

if you have FW or MGE...yes.MGE includes FW.

ok all i know is that it says my version is 2.78? is this mge or not??

Ok actually its version 1.00 i just reinstalled now i'm guessing this is civ2 classic so how can i upgrade it to mge?

There's a patch, or patches on this site, which will convert whatever version you have into the MGE version, you can find it in the Civ2 download section.

version 1...thats not the MAC version is it?..if so..you have gone as far as you can go with that.You'll need to get MGE.Still available for MAC.

if not,then first thing you need to do is patch up to 2.42.
If you follow the link and directions I posted above you will find the 2.42 patch.D/l-install.
On that same list you will find "convert your classic to MGE".D/L-update.

nope this is a pc thrue and thrue but ok i did as you sai i dloaded the 2.42 update from the dloads page and placed all files in civ2 dir i then go into the game a pres ctrl-o and it says
civilization II 2.4.2 Custom 08-oct-96

ok everything is fine so i go and get the convert civ2 classic to mge
and after copying the apropriate files and pressing ctrl-o it says this
civilization II 2.7.8l Scenario Editor 21-oct-97

is this what i want ? and can i play multy player now somhow? also can i now play al scenarios requiring fantastic worlds?

2.78 is FW iirc.You should be able to play almost all the good scenarios.Just not those made on MGE.Most are made with FW.

You need to upgrade to MGE to play MP.MGE includes FW so might as well go all the way.

how the AI cheats when they capture one(or several) of your cities and then when you approach to liberate it they ask for a peace treaty, idiots like iwant piece right when im mobilized with nukes and ready for war. why ?!?!?!

Do you think you might have just posted in the wrong thread? It makes no sense because this thread is about what version of civ he has and not AI stupidities which is in another thread.
