I have a sony vaio (pcg-frv26) and civ 4 will not start up on my laptop...It will go to the loading screen when i launch it but then it goes no where...I can hear music in the back ground...but the video screen will not pop up...any help would be great...thank you!

The movies have been a problem - they have developed low res movies that are a quarter the file size so will run better albeit with low textures, we are waiting for their release.
Anything that reduces load on main RAM & Video RAM, eg stop background services, run lower res, lower textures etc etc - many examples on the board all helps. Suspect still will not be perfect tho - all depends on the hardware you have.
Another option are the "Bink" entries in the .ini file, changing those affects the way the movies are painted to the screen - make sure you keep a backup copy of ini file incase you get confused and need to revert to original
(bink changes are non-fatal, although can produce wierd effects if taken to extreme - hence need for safety copy of ini file just in case)
In the end turn them off if they drive you insane, not a fix, but saves the wall plaster in your room and a fractured scull
