Hi everyone. I need some help here. I have just been playing against the Japanese, and I was building well, encountering no opposition at all. I eventually grew to almost all of the map, and so sent a galley out to investigate. There were no Japanese at all, anywhere. Just me on the world. But they were building things like the art of war and the such like, so they were there in some form, but as I said, I covered the world almost, and nothing.
Is this a bug in the game, and if so , how do I fix it?

Have you explored the whole world?

Could you provide a saved game or a screenshot? It may be a bug.

Thanks for the reply God. Could you tell me where to go to load up the saved game? And I have definitely explored the whole world. The computer was acting as if they were there, stating who was the happiest and largest nation in the world e.t.c.
Just no sign of anyone at all.
Thanks again,
Kev

LOL

Obviously they all built the spaceship at the same time then and buggered off :p

That sounds like the weirdest game ever you got there!!!

Kev, forgive me if this sounds insulting, for I mean no offense. :)

When you say you've explored all of the map, do you mean all of the rectangular game map (an overview of which appears in the lower left of your monitor) or all of the land mass upon which your civilization has grown? Your reference to Sun Tzu and the fact that you've made a galley to explore makes me think that you're relatively early in the tech tree, and perhaps a newcomer to Civ3. Galleys can't explore the entire world, they must stay close to land -- you'll need more advanced ships to sail the seas and they only become available with advances significantly farther along the tech tree than feudalism (which allows Sun Tzu). If you really used a galley, then Japan may very well be on another land mass that you haven't been able to discover yet.

Again, no offense meant, and no shame in being new to the game and not understanding everything; just the references in your post and the sheer craziness of the bug (if it's one) led me to ask the questions.

Hi, and no offence taken. What I mean is I have explored all of the rectangular map we see in the corner, as you say. Are you saying there is more land beyond that? The problem being, the outer edge is fringed with water, and there is no sign of any more land. And I have never got anywhere like this far without encountering any other civilizations. ?There just doesn't seem to be anybody else at all. I will check again, however.
Thanks for replying,
Kev.
P.S. I also have chosen the one continent land mass, (pangean or something), so there should not be any other continents to explore.

even with pangea, there are islands sometimes. what Tech are you on? Do you have communications with them??? in the mini map, is there any black at all??? If you post a screenshot then we could prolly tell you where they are hiding

Hi again all, and apologies are forthcoming. I have just seen a Japanese galley come sailing into my area. What I cannot understand, though, is the fact that I chose one continent, and I have been all the way round, (showing the water seperating my land into one continent) and obviously the Japenese galley has had to traverse across the ocean to reach me. So there must be two continents, Or maybe the panean map doesn't mean specifically one continent. Anyway, sorry for wasting everybody's time here, I just was surprised that the Japanese didn't contact me earlier.

Hi dc dash. Just got your post. As you will probably know by now, I have just seen a jap galley. And I have realised about the islands. Sorry for wasting time, and thanks for everyone's help once again.
