I have happily run Civ III for months, including early this morning. This afternoon, the game tells me it can't find the CD. I only have one. I've uninstalled and re-installed. I've tried it with and without the latest patch. I get a little box telling me it can't find the CD, to re-insert it, click OK and start the program again. Which gives me the same box. Only thing different is that I installed Frontpage.

Ideas? Thanks in advance.

If you installed Frontpage from cd, that may be the problem. I get this same error everytime I have had another cd in the drive, but only if I had Civ3 open previous to using the other cd. So if you played in the morning, then installed Frontpage in the afternoon, and decided to play Civ3 without any system restart, you may have the same problem, I guess.

Restarting the system usually works for me - but that is still a drag :(

Not sure what to think now. Today, all is well. After re-installing and re-booting several times yesterday, nothing. This morning, a re-install and it works. All old games and files are gone (quite frustrating) but the game is up and running again.

Thanks for your reply.

This is probably where I should stick a "Don't do this at home, kids" warning, but....

Could you do me a favor and insert another cd, then copy some files from it to the Harddrive, or perhaps install something from it. Once done, try and insert your Civ3 cd (without restarting the comp.) and see if you can start the game.

Don't worry if it doesn't start, it should be fine again after restarting the computer.

Not trying to get you into any trouble with the comp., but if two of us could prove this thing, there might be a chance we could actually get someone from Infogrames to fix this problem. (a slim chance, I admit...)
