I need help! I have won a game on Warlord and Regent, but I need help on my Monarch advance. I saw that recovering from last place thing and I decided to do the trick that I saw on it. Buy the techs instead of researching. But I still need help! The only victory conditions are Domination and Conquest. I play vanilla, so there is no such thing as a quick knights templer with hundreds of crusaders for me. Just help please! The save can be found below.

PS to moderaters: Please move this thread if it doesn't fit in with the others.

Well i'm still pretty much a noob to the game so don't exactly take my advice to heart. Anyways i have found at higher levels you pretty much have to buy all your tech. Going for a Domination or conquest just makes it that much tougher because you usually got inferior units and you really need a spotless rep to get gpt buys. I don't have time to check your save right now but I'd offer one more piece of advice. I f your going to be buying your tech you really don't need to use a scientific civ. Hope I was somewhat helpful

I will try to look at this today, but 780AD is way too late to correct empire issues. I can say that you should surely be able to out research the AI on Monarch. My general view is that I do not like to buy tech, unless you are going for space race or UN.

They only have a 10% edge on you and you should be able to out manage them by more than that and out fight them by a great deal more than that.

Once I get to a high enough level were out researching them is not the best option, I will normally opt to steal.

The first option will be to trade for techs. The second is to beat them out of them and the last is steal.

I do not like to feed them gold as that will help ensure I stay behind. Like all RoT (Rule Of Thumb) there are exceptions. If it is early in the game, say no later than the middle age, I may buy a tech.

If in fact you had a poor start location, things may have to be done differently.

First thing that jumps out is you are in 780AD and still in despotism. That is a killer. Next I see forest on 5 tiles in the capitol and more near it. They should have been chopped to gained the shields and the grass.

A glance does not show another city, all are towns still?

780Ad and you have 4 MA techs. One you got free and I think you said you bought at least 1. You should be in the IA. You are not as the empire is in shambles. Much of that is due to the despotism.

Nearly all of the towns are bare, no a single structure. How can you have a core with zero structures. I am all for minimalism, but that is a bit too far.

I have a simple rule and that is no troops made after the very early ones without a barracks.

As this is monarch you probably could still win, but rather than going over things blow by blow. I have made a guide in the strategy article forum for Regent players. It covers some of the issues.
