Help!

I Decided to play Civ 4 online, for that i had to install an upgrade,
But when i tried to play after installing the upgrade,
It said it couldn't start the game for no reason.
So i decided to delete everything that had Something to do with civilization
and after that reinstall it.
Problem is:
When i put the cd in now, it just says play,read me or quit.
not install, what i hoped for, but just start, even though i deleted everything.
I tried using the setup.exe on the cd rom But that says i can't untill i uninstall version
1.710.000, problem is, i can't find it.

Welcome to CFC!

Try to follow this order when doing stuff, you may have already deleted some of the things so if you can't find them don't worry, the Installshield Installation Information folder is the one that is most likely causing problems:

Use Control Panel to uninstall Civ4

Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually

Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually

Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually

(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)

Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)

This InstallShield folder is the one that will stop you installing again and make the CD only give you the play option. (note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).

To reinstall:

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)

Install Civ4, patch it to 1.74 (download it fresh from here)

If you run Vista or Win 7 make sure to run every installer and patch with admin rights, ie: right click on it and choose run as admin - in XP all you need is to install while logged in with an administrator account (usually what people use anyways).
