Yeah, I can't seem to cancel a mutual protection treaty. Does anyone know how to do it?

I believe the only way is to declare war or wait for the 20 turns to be up.

get them to declare war on you.really annoy by asking for outrageous stuff like cities then try something small like a territory map which they'll accept and their opinion of you will go down.then (providing u dont have a right of passage) tell them to piss off out ur territory and voila!

If you don't have auto re-negotiate deals turned on (in preferences menu I believe) you can renegotiate deals (after the 20 turns) by going to the "make a deal" (or whatever) option which is top of your in the normal diplomatic options. Then selecting "active deals" which is below the box where you normally make the deals. Once your active deals are shown click on the treaty / deal you wish to re-negotiate and it should pop into view.

Again I may need to be corrected but after 20 turns you can cancel any deal without any negative effects asside from the removal of any benefits that deal grants (eg ROP increases your standing with an AI making them polite. Cancelling the ROP, cancels the bonus and may result in you rep decreasing with that Civ. If you just attacked the AI without cancelling the ROP or MPP your overall rep with ALL AI civs will be (permanently) damaged.

The only way to cancel it IMO, onced signed BEFORE 20 tuns have elapsed are:

1) If they get wiped out
2) They declare war on you (or make them do)
3) You declare war on them

And of the 3 options Drakan gives, only option 2 will keep your reputation intact.

So if I have an MPP with a civ and they get wiped out I take a rep hit?!?!?!

HARSH!
