Don't forget, downloading Civ1 is illegal. It is still on sale in several places. (It is not too old - you've just got to look properly.) Anyone who posts alink to a download site will have their post edited or removed and will find themselves banned from this site. (And I often close the thread too.)

To gonzo_for_civ: Do you have Civnet? I'm using winciv for this gotm but I'm wondering if you can read my save games from civnet if I use Civnet in the future.

Elibb, go ahead and use your version of Civnet. I don't have it but I am getting it. <-- legally of course

Soon, I shall have all of the civ versions

Well I just might make the feb 15th deadline (even though I bet I'll have the lowest score in the history of a GOTM ever) But I will have it to Gonzo's inbox by 11:59:59 February 15th. (I really wish it was an extended date in feb since I downloaded a bit late. I also just found something out I do have Civ Dos also so maybe I'll play both GOTM's for civ 1 next time. (just realized The Explorer contained both dos and win versions of civ and col.) Well If i wasn't in school I'd be playing my game right now (but I don't exactly have civ on this computer at school) Well I think this is a great idea and I'll actually beg of you to not make the GOTM's on emperor for awhile (King I do fine) but it's been to long for me to play on Emperor. (Prince is sorta easy) Thanks for the GOTM.

My 2nd worst game ever.....:cry::cry:
I just started the game, didn't even have time to build my city. Once I just built it the German cavalry came in and took it, since I had not built any unit yet. End of the game. 8 turns.

The only time when I did worse is told in another thread in this same Civ1 forum, somewhere on the bottom (quite old thread). Indeed, I did a wrong shortkey. First turn, 4000BC, I thought I typed ctrl+s (for save) but actually hit ctrl+d (for disband). Damn, game over, not even survived one turn  Anyway.... I was so disgusted by this 1st Civ1 GOTM that I'm not sure I'm willing to restart it. But I think I can't restart it either, since GOTM is a no restart challenge eh?

Stories like this one belong in the spoiler thread.:p
I've been lucky, I was in the same situation but the cavalry didn't go into my city. Then I killed them all.:D

The ambitions of GOTM sometimes make strange things happen!

Gonzo: are you going to send me the DOS saves? (So far I'm assuming I don't have to send you mine if I'm evaluating the DOS ones. But tell me if that's wrong.)

Everyone: My experience of Civ2 GOTM leads me to suggest that (as well as a year 1 save) people should send the save of the turn immediately before the last one, not the last one itself. So if you're landing a spaceship, we need the save of the turn immediately before you see the landing animation. The one afterwards where it's asked you whether you want to carry on playing is too late, because restoring that save won't give you the score. If you win by conquest, again you send the save of the next to last turn with clear instructions as to how to finish the last turn.

And anyone who is playing the DOS version needs to send two files for each save, the .sve and the .map.

I finally won and where mighyt I find the spoiler thread at (never knew there is one because I have a teale to tell.

See if you can find the game packed with Colonization in a package called "The Explorer"... I found this package at 10 DKK (about 1£) in a shop not so long ago (last year). I almost got it thrown in the neck.

But it IS pretty difficult to find in the shops, unless there is such a spectacular bargain as the one I got, and not all people have Visas to buy over the internet. So I can understand if one wants to find a place to download it. I for one would never have known about this great game, if it hadn't been for two borrowed disks from my brother-in-law... :D
