LOL. I have to admit, I'm a newb to the boards even though I'm not at all a newb to Civ and it is quite evident that the regular posters are addicted to shorthand. Probably from years of having to write such things as 'Declaration of War' and 'The Temple of Artemis' in full and realising posts can be a lot smaller by writing DoW and ToA instead. However, to the new eyes it looks like unfamiliar text speak.

The great advantage to "dow" over "declaration of war" is that now it's just one word, you can use it as both verb and a noun.
