In my latest game, the Hippus are my vassels by their own choice and have been pleased or friendly with me for the whole game. They were at war so I was sending some assistance via caravel and they sank my ship with a privateer. I know it belonged to the Hippus because it came from their port. They sank my ship when I was trying to assist them. I know the AI had no idea of what my intentions were but I still think that friendly nations shouldn't use their hidden nationality units against friends. Well, at least certain nations. Maybe some evil nations would attack their allies. Is it possible to address this in some way?

Hidden Nationality is ideally, exactly what it implies. You don't know whether it belongs to the Barbarians, your team-mate, your ally, or your worst enemy. Albeit there are some discrepancies with the way they behave when controlled by AI (I've never understood why the barbarians will disband some animals instead of allowing them to stand in the same tile), they generally do tend to try and act as close to that as possible... so just because it's your allies privateer, don't go thinking that you're safe.

It makes it quite annoying to prostletyze someone with Pact of the Nilhorn when the Three Stooges keep killing all your disciples.

hahaha, one of my game strategies is to rush Cartography and build the Pact of Nilhorn. The Stooges are great defenders against the early barb Goblins and Warriors and can hold their own against the Lizardmen if they are promoted.

But, they are best at sending out in a group to use their HN to pillage and attack ai civ defenders leaving them open for barbs to capture their cities - it was great when HN units, like the Stooges, could take cities, but no longer.

Anyway, the few times the ai has beaten me to the Pact (it doesn't seem to be a priority build order for them), I have only seen them stay at home, and, as you say, pick off friendly units that enter their borders.
