Well I am almost recovered from my computer failure a week ago. Apparently the major MS security patch was being downloaded while I was watching baseball on my computer and the demand for memory was exceeded despite having 2 gigs of memory!!! The download thus froze and I was unable to free things up with Ctrl Alt Del. So I did a hard shut down. Which apparently toasted my registry. I just got my Restore disks from HP and have had to do an entire HD Reformat. So I'm in the process of reloading my software. Will be working on Civ3 next and hope to be back playing shortly. Appreciate everyone's patience. I will be posting this in the seveal game threads I'm currently playing. Thanks!
Sully
PS...Eric if you didn't already you can send the save to me and I should be able to do the turn by tomorrow (Thursday).

Just finished reloading Civ!!! Not to mention restoring my PC...Will get the turn done tomorrow. Glad to be back. That goes for all my ongoing PBEMs.

Glad to be up and running with my first Civ3 PBEM in a week! Will be catching up with all the others by the end of the weekend. Thanks Eric for the links and to all for your patience.

The crash occurred a week ago tonight due to the MS Security Patch download that affected a lot of HP computers and PCs with HP products.

-Air units injured Russian Inf Div north of Sveastapol.

Minor Allies did nothing (again).

CW got busy.

In the East:

Sarawak falls. 2 Jap Inf Divs killed. No losses.

In Europe:

Captured Athens using naval assault and the Inf Corp outside the city. No losses.

Bombing N of Koln, cut the rubber tile, red lined all the units. Lost 1 B17 and 1 Fighter to flak.

Bombing Antwerp destroyed Courthouse, Marketplace, Library, ME109 and 2 pop. The fortress Div was red lined.

Bombing Koln destroyed the Barracks, Granary, ME109 and 1 pop. Scratched the paint on the nice tank corp there too.

Cut road SE of Hamburg.

Bombing Marseille destroyed Barracks, 1 pop, 1 ME109 and red lined the Stuka.

Conducted a raid into Europe. Our Marine division stormed the defenses of Antwerp killed the fortress division guarding the city. Landed a tank unit right behind it to take out a radar controlled flak east of the city. Then used another tank unit to capture Hamburg. Cut all the roads between Antwerp and Hamburg in order not to make it too easy for the German counterattack.

With a German tank corp in Koln and 2 full strength German Inf Corps (and 1 red lined one) nearby, there is no hope of holding any of the cities. Recapturing them and the loss of all the raiding units is inevitable, but the morale boost to civilian morale and subsequent shock to the German High Command was deemed to make the raid worthwhile.

Needless to say, Antwerp and Hamburg are effectively useless production centers for the balance of the war.

Turn sent to both Luthor and Sully.

I got the file, but will wait to meet with the German HQ for advice on which exact forces are to conquer London...

That last post was so funny that when we told it to Winston, he laughed so hard he fell out of his chair and spilt his drink. Mussolini definitely is practising for his post war career in standup comedy.

:-)

I guess the German HQ is having fun with the bits and bytes (must be code name for pretty ladies, I guess), I'll postpone the attack on London for one turn.

Now all I need is to find is TechGuy's email...

HOF Fellow Players...I think we are at a point from the Axis position that there is very little to be gained in continuing play and are willing to surrender.

The Allies have been played perfectly by the three of you. I realized the game was lost from turn two when I saw how the Russian Front was so soundly defended to a point where there was NO vulnerable spot to punch through. That was also based upon the fact that Play Order was changed to allow the Russian to move before the German. I think that is a mistake.

From my perspective I think HOF has a lot of potential. But I think there are several areas for the Germans that greatly limit them. In no particular order; over availability of radar use by russians, too few airfields in France and Germany, too few ME109s at those airfields and in german cities in particular, no mobile arty units for germans. Too few german workers to begin with whether they be willing natives or reluctant captives. Hope these observations are of use. It was a joy to try the Germans..but no one plays them as well as Misfit does!!!!

Again great job by the Allies and I enjoyed playing with LouLong for the first time and especially enjoy every chance to play alongside Luthor!

I agree that the game is pointless. I have 4 inf corp armies ready to drop on Europe and pretty much complete air superiority over Western Europe. Any army unit German throws against me will be bombed down to ruins and then run over by the inf corp armies.

I think Sully is right about the turn order, workers and Russian radar. My sound thrashing (as the German on the Russian) probably swung the balance a little too far in favour of the Russian. The problem with CIVIII however is that its a very fine line in multiplayer to create balance. I'm not sure it will ever be perfect.

Excellent game gentlemen. Now if you would like to try a CIV IV PBEM let me know.

You forgot to mention the loss of all the Japanese carriers on the first
two turns! But I agree it is getting pointless to continue.

I will be making some changes when I get around to doing HOF 2. Giving
Russia radar was an error, also the Axis need to start with more workers.
I also think the time scale is wrong and will consider going to monthly turns
with increased ship movement and a shallow water mid atlantic ridge.

The historical situation on the Eastern Front was that the German offsensive
on Moscow had almost halted and the Russians were preparing a counter-offensive
so I think it is right that the Russians move first. I will move more
of the Russian forces back east of the Urals at start so they will not get
to the front as fast, this will allow the Germans more opportunity to attack
at start.

Yup the carrier losses were significant! I like your ideas for revision too! But I'd like to emphasize the icrease of airfields to 4 with at least 2-3 Sqdns of ME109s and one Sqdn of FW-190s. The 190s should be available at the start of the scenario although in limited quantities.
I'd also push for increased German city production. Its too low in reflecting the german ability to increasr production despite aerial bombing. Also, there need to be an oil and rubber supply out of range of english bombers..such as Polesti. The site would not be in range of bombing until the allies take over air bases in Italy.
Just some thoughts to consider. As usual Eric you get most of it right on the first try...well done!

As I recall there are a couple of oil tiles at Polesti, but they are part of the
Minor Axis not Germany. The Minor Axis can trade the oil to Germany.
