You think that was different anywhere? WWII ended the global depression. FDR tried his hardest, but it was the war, not the New Deal, that brought us out of the depression. Bismarck gets my vote as one of THE BEST leaders in history. Anyone who doesn't know the history of Bismarck should go out and read up on it now, to take a 2nd rate power such as Prussia and maneuver economics, international politics, and war so masterfully to create a powerful Germany so quickly... amazing... People have said Hitler was a brilliant military leader, and I'll give you some credit for that, but everything Hitler did, Bismarck did better, and without the antisemitism. That said, I think Charlemagne would make the best second choice or Frederick Barbosa (sp?).
