AWS regular size island map was easy to win, but hard on my clicking finger. Lots of dromon pillaging left the old finger begging for mercy. So, this is an OPEN SG as well as a test to see if bigger island maps are actually easier than tiny ones. The bigger maps tend to isolate the AI because of sea tiles. I wonder if a tiny map may actually be harder to win. It's open because there are so few open games, the LK100 game was so popular, and I suspect some lurkers are anxious to kick some Sid butt.

OPEN SG - If you post an "I got it" plan to post and play within 24 hours. Preferably play right away. Asking for ideas is fine, just don't bog the game down by posting an I GOT IT and then disappearing. :)

You can grab the game more than once, but please let three two other people play between your grabs.

Relatively detailed turn logs are encouraged since this is an open SG. Notes to the next player are highly valued.

The roadmap to a regular size map win is HERE. May or may not work on a tiny map.

Roster
OPEN SG :D

Always War Boilerplate
No trading - ever. You must declare war on the same turn you meet an AI. If you see a new AI unit, you must make contact & declare war that turn. If you check F4 and see a new face, you are obligated to declare war immediately. Players must declare war if they are exploring and see AI units, but are not required to actually attack the units they come in contact with. No peace treaties, ever. You may use MapStat or F4 as often as you like to spy on the AI's tech, resources, luxuries & city count.

Discuss any move that seems exploitive before doing it. Although there are not too many exploits available in AW, follow the forbidden blatant exploits banned by GOTM and RBCiv such as no "Free Wealth". Other normal game exploits such as "Baiting the AI" with an empty city to create a kill zone are an AW tradition and are allowed. Also, you ARE allowed to initially keep a city, move a settler to the same spot as the city, and then abandon and immediately resettle. This is considered an exploit in RBCiv rules, but is okay in this AW games. In addition if you need to build a city one square deeper into enemy territory just to move borders to steal a resource, go for it. We may keep or raze cities, and can keep slaves. You may whip at will, including captured cities or cities where all citizens are unhappy. Only emergency whips (you need a spear to keep a city under assault) are allowed. Ship chains are fine.

SG Stuff
If you post an "I got it" plan to post and play within 24 hours. It's okay to stop mid turns to ask questions, this is after all an open SG. You can play 10 or 5 turns since bombing with dromons takes a long time after you accumulate a few.

Lucky candle to light the way.

Pre-Turn
settle Constantinople and the mighty Handy Sid empire has begun to rise, and what do we see, another ivory, well...
we need dromons and the TGL (lighthouse), so writing next
max writing brings it down to, well not really yet, but 5 beakers into research for a start

1. 4000BC
zzz

5. 3750BC
get a warrior to explore a little first, next is a curragh

10. 3500BC
well the northern part of the Island is sure small

11. 3450BC
got a curragh, rax next

12. 3400BC
wow, jungle galore, what an island

15. 3250BC
still building a rax, but we can switch to settler which would coincide with growth to 3
curragh saw many shores around, but prefer to explore our own Island a little first, odd shape

A Brave Warrior Appears. :goodjob:

I think the switch to settler is a good idea. If we need a rax right now we are toast anyway. Vets won't save us.

We can use regular warriors for MP and buildthe economy before the AI finds us.

If we are surrounded by sea tiles we have a great chance. If there is a sea passage we might be in for a cliff hanger.

The AI might not attack a stack of dinky boats blocking a coastal passage to the homelands.

If you can win at Diety or AWE, don't be afraid to pick this up. T_McC hint hint

Handy, I would change the rules slightly. I think you should allow ppl to pick it up if one other player has played between. The reason is that a game like this is tougher and fewer will play it. Open games tend to be notorious for dying before completion. If you require 3 people, then your game is almost guaranteed to stall.

(and yes I may play later cannot play at the moment though :) ).

I'll do this if it stalls. Looks like it may wind up more like a regular SG with perhaps me, you, Rat and the usual list of suspects. :)

I was hoping some SG players with lots of experience but little AW experience would give it a go.

I think simply seeing the word SID scares a lot of people to death. With all the crazy things the LK series has done my only sid attempt was a crushing loss.

Sorry, but I don't have it.

Do you take idiot sid semi-virgins? I can't play before sunday, but sign me up if I have the appropriate prequisites. :crazyeye:

I'm a definite in, but me thinks Lk, Bede, Bugs and Greebley should play before moi to lessen the chance I'll mess this up...

I may not get another chance to play, so I'll step in now. I have it.

Early - Switching to a settler would give us pop 1 in five turns. I switch to a curragh to explore more. Curragh=>settler
Our new curragh sails east in a suicide run.
Russians build the Colossus

Middle – Settler=>warrior We lose a curragh, so I switch the build over to another curragh. Found Adrianople to the south, start a worker. Probing sea tiles to the southwest, we spot a pink frontier. We sail a suicide voyage to make contact.

The Abu is very polite. He has six cities including his capitol. He is up Masonry, pottery, WC & CB. Probably a few second tier techs as well. I sell him Alphabet for Masonry and his 10G. I then slap him across the face and we are at war.

Constantinople: curragh=>spear

Late – More exploring.

Here’s the situation:

Continue exploring. We should meet the other two civs pretty soon.

Oops - we were going to play this as no trading, but that's okay. It's no big deal.

Two Lux.
Jungle and marsh

I can't see the very southern part of the map, are we totally surrounded by sea tiles? If so we are in excellent shape. :D

EDIT If anyone picks this up switch the build. We don't need regular spears. Either boat, granary or a rax would probably work.

Ooops sorry Handy. I could replay it without the trade. It won't really impact much, but it will keep it clean. That was only about three turns ago.

No big deal, we'll just play this one as a trading game. :)

I meant to pick this up last night but got busy. This weekend for sure. Until then it is available. I'm a little surprised no one wants to pick it up. grs and romeothemonk, where are you?
