HOF Update: New Website

Smirk, MOTH and LulThyme,

Thanks!

My brain must have been dead there for a while. I kept thinking these other categories (besides score) should be ranked by score - it finally sank in that they are ranked game ending date. It only took three people saying the same thing to get me to open my eyes! I didn't even read Gyathaar's message right - I thought that message said they were by submission date.

Somehow I was thinking fastest finish was conquest only but obviously it is not. I think I need to quit posting and lurk for a while.

Smirk, milking a tiny map is actually the easiest kind of milk, but I am 100% confident that the scoring bonus for a tiny map conquest will beat the best effort of milking when it comes to score. Somewhere in small or standard map the milking can take over the fast finish scoring bonus. I think boogaboo had figured out about where the cutoff is where milking takes over.

Yes, as I said in my previous post, the best score achievable on Tiny and Small maps is by fast conquest , and for standard, is not clear, but as boogaboo analysed, should depend on difficulty level.

Okay, here's a Trivia Question for you:
Who won this year's Super Bowl and last year's Tour de France?
Quick.....who won the first one? ;)

Seriously off topic (and a bit late), but:
1st Super Bowl: Green Bay Packers
1st Tour de France: Frenchman Maurice Garin...

:D

Well done 'slug, DaveShack & Darkness.....all correct answers!

For Audit purposes only (viz. Moderator Action): I was just making the point that the first person to accomplish something wasn't necessarily the most-remembered. (I.e. Tour de France winners.)

So this was an argument in favor of having a 1st= Ranking in the HOF Tables where the Date & Score are equal versus the current situation where the Submission Date is the tie-breaker.........thus 1st= is not possible! :)

On another subject, the HOF Staff is to be congratulated on the redesign of the HOF Website (although I can't tell what the new logo is.....better see an optician! ;) )

What amazes me are the ideas that you folks came up.....very ingenious.......and, of course Dianthus bangs out the programming in no-time-flat! Nice touch, people! :goodjob: :goodjob:

@Dianthus: Did we ever use 1.0 publically? Looking at it again now I can see where I screwed up the alignment.

I do understand your point, but it's apples and oranges isn't it? Lance Armstrong was only competing against this year's athletes, not the ones of yesteryear. When you go for a Tiny/Chieftain/Conquest, you're competing with everyone who has ever done it.

For me, the problem with ties is that it could result in more than 10 spots in one table. I see no need for exceptions or asterisk marks if you will in the HOF. Anyway, I've put in my two cents and won't be commenting further on the issue.

No, we only used it on our test site. You would of gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that pesky Dianthus revealing it to the public :crazyeye:.

Gotten away with it? Such negative thinking. I prefer to think it was inspiration for Thunderfall to provide the new logo!

I was picturing you as the villain in a "Scooby Doo" episode that has just be captured at the end ;).

Daggamit, it's been a while since I watched a Scooby Doo epsode, and I guess I watched the adult version too. (Does that explain it? ;)).

roh-row - I better brush up on my scooby speak if I want to hang around on this forum

Seems like this thread is starting to get dogged with spam.

When I look at two peoples Histographic ranking on the Quartermaster table I don't get the same numbers. In order for me to get a normalized ranking I had to take a persons rank on the histographic table subtract 1 then multiply that by 9 divided by the total number of people on the table minus 1. That number is then added to 1 for the normalized rank. Equation looks something like (rank-1)*[9/(total-1)]+1. It looks like the [9/(total-1)] term is using (10/total) to get the normalized ranking.

Yes, the formula used is:

normailzedRank = playerRank*10/total

I.e.

EMan is ranked 11 out of 30, giving 11*10/30 = 3.67
boogaboo is ranked 29 out of 30, giving 29*10/30 = 9.67

Thinking about it though (and I guess this is what you're trying to point out?), that would make the normalized rank be between 10/total and 10 rather than 1 and 10. So, your formula would probably be better!

Question: Currently Smirk game list listed as #2 for 20K. Which one is #1?

http://hof.civfanatics.net/game_info.php?entryID=365

The bottom line: If that is #2, then which one is #1?
#1 is a game that has been accepted but not published yet. That's a bug with the game_info.php page, it should say #1 until it's official. I'll fix that straight away!

[Edit: OK, that's fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out Moosinger :goodjob:]
