Horses and war: is it possible?

Pillaging is great income indeed.
Wit hriders trait it doubled, so at highter levels consider more pillaging than conquering cities at wars, because bad cities take hi maintanance , and if you raze them you get AC up.
I made few wars just to get some 1-2 good border cities and pillage rest .
You can run such wars on other continents, where you wont to get too much cities. But pilaging will give you very hight boost to economy.
But if you want to pillage - cavalry is your only choice.
Ah, just for example , my hippus Mercenary Cavalry was able to pillage town to 0 and then flee to safespot (gathering on same, hi defence tile is important whne you done with unit mission for current turn).
With Raiders trai town to 0 means 100- 200+ gold.
Imagine now enemy land covered with towns. In few turns you can raze all his towns, get huge (2000-3000+) income , while using Rahtas to paralyze his forces, and go back to ships or just capture 1 good shore city for you , most distant, to no have issues with culture, kill enemy industry (copper/mines) and farms.
Fast wars are good for economy while long ones are bad (war weariness), so you better make them fast and profitable ;)

2 other points...

They force your opponent to defend in depth, tying up units in each city, that he can't now throw at you.

When mixed in with a conventional stack it allows the stack to move directly to its targets, whilst the horses pillage the surrounding terrain...Even this pillaging more than pays for the supply costs of the stack for the entire war.

And you feed yours to the animals? :)
