Horses out of meteors

From an historical point of view, meteorites were the source of the first Iron for weapons in early empires.

Amazing, I didn't know that. Thanks for dropping the knowledge bombs! :D

Oddly enough, I think that for Apocalypse Mode I'm totally fine with meteorites gifting free units. The whole game mode is built around stretching what is realistic for the sake of doing something fresh and fun. (And I give Firaxis big props for doing some creative.)

I'm glad other people are enjoying Apocalypse Mode, I just don't think it is really for me. It's not a big deal, just given the choice I'd vote for meteorites to give lump iron in the base game. As I feel that is more balanced and realistic. (Aluminium is also a good idea too!)

Good to hear other peoples opinions on it! :D

I think the reward option should be extended a bit. And maybe the current reward can also be altered slightly.

Possible options that could be rewarded interchangable with the current one:
  • some strategic resource (iron, coal, aluminum, uranium) + a certain amount of gold, these can be seen as valuable metals/minerals acquired from meteorites
  • unique promotion (not xp) called "holy metal" or something
  • some amount of faith, the meteorite is seen as a sign from god(s) or initiating a holy event
Meteorites could also be linked to great people (great scientist and maybe great engineer) and apostles promotions.

I've only gotten chariots from a meteor strike. I get 1 free chariot early in the game. And yeah, it did seem really gamey to me.
