Hotseat Multiplayer problem (not in the FAQ)

Just bought Civ3Conquests and installed it. I'm trying to run a hotseat game (the real reason I bought the expansion) but it keeps crashing on me.

1. Do the multiplayer/firewall problems also prevent my computer from running a hotseat (1 computer-2 players) game? I've read thru the Sticky Thread on this, scratching my head in great confusion many times, but can't find an answer. I'm starting to go thru the firewall checklist in the sticky thread, but before I go thru these 5-6 steps that I really don't quite understand, I'm curious if firewalls really have anything to do with hotseat games.

2. I've never installed a patch before. When I download the #22 patch, do I just place the patch in the folder for Civ3C--or is there something else I need to do with the file after I download it? Or is there some particular folder I need to place it in? I'm assuming it is an .exe file (whatever that means). Do I need to do anything to activate an .exe file or do they activate themselves?

3. The FAQ says I need to go into the .ini file to make the barbarians act right. Can I edit the .ini file from Notebook or do I need to use some other file?

Thanks.

1. No, I don't think your firewall will prevent you from playing a hotseat game...I'm not quite sure why hotseat won't work.

2. The most recent patch for Conquests, 1.22, can be downloaded here - save it to your desktop and then run it. Just follow the wizard that runs...

3. Yeah, you can open the .ini file in Notepad. It's located in C:/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization III/Conquests/ (it might be .../Atari/Civilization III instead). It is named conquests.ini - just right click it and hit "Open With" Notepad.

You could also try asking why Hotseat won't work in the MP and PBEM forum.
