How do I force my units to move automatically at the beginning of a turn?

It is very annoying in multiplayer to receive notifications like "A Colosseum has been built in Delhi. What would you like to build next?" at the beginning of a turn, while in the meantime, your opponent might move his units just where you wanted to place your own ones. If I give an order to my unit to go to a square in the next turn, is there a setting that forces the unit to do that move IMMEDIATELY in the next turn?

If you want to avoid those messages, you could manage your build queue. The message only appears when a city has nothing queued next.

isn't this based on turn/movement mechanics of the game? I didn't expect that the build message popping out would have effect on this?

In SP pressing crtl -a executes all automated moves immediately before any other actions. This is very useful to do if moving units to a war field, as the roads that would not be built until you press end turn, are useable immediately.

This might work for Mp, but Im not a mp guy so not sure sorry.

Checking "minimise popups" will give you those popups at the end of turn instead of the start - much better.

I'm sorry, but multiplayer time strategy is a state secret...

Na i'm j/k. If you want to move before your opponents every time do the following:

1) check "minimize popups"
2) when you are done with your turn, select the unit you wish to move, even if he has no more moves left
3)When the next turn starts, immediatly use the NUMPAD to move your unit (not mouse).

That's the fastest possible method.

Thanks guys, I never tried these, next time I'll try "Minimize popups" combined with the Numpad keys and/or Ctrl-A and hopefully I'll be as quick as lightning :D.

All of this just shows again that the only way to play fair competitive MP in civ4 is to disable simultaneous turns. The hurry hurry move the unit before the enemy does thing just doesn't belong in a turn based game.

QFT It kills a lot of the strategy. Like Starcraft isn't so much a strategy game as it is a race.

However...

Turn based games take a long time to complete, something that doesn't lend itself well to multiplayer. The best example is Advance Wars By Web, where Advance Wars is played turn based, like it is on the GBA/DS, but most of the games are incomplete because of the amount of time it takes.

It's a toss up :P
