How do I install/play a mod

I have installed a couple of mods... unzipped them and placed them in the MOD folder for civ iv. I have then gone into advanced and selected the appropriate mod at which point the program states that it must reload to begin the mod... It reloads and gives the title for the mod in the top right hand corner of the screen. I haven't a clue as to what to do next! I have tried a single player game and everything else I can think of and it doesn't seem to work. What do I do?

once you're reloaded, and it says the name of the mod in the top right, that means, you are IN the mod.
perhaps it's a mod that doesn't change much of the gameplay, look at the discription of the mod from where you downloaded it, and see what's different about it.
Often it's units and leaders and civilizations......
