ok, im a little confused about this Game of the Month thing. i havent done it before. how do i play? is there a file i have to download? or there certain conditions i have to select? where can i find this info? im very lost....

yeah, thanks, i just found that after i posted, lol

I've been trying for months and just too lazy to post but here goes.

Every time I try to download (or even access a page) past the GOTM page I get bounced all the way out of CivFanatics site, in fact my browser closes in AOL.

What is going on here?

Any help would be appreciated

Bob, I really have no idea... it could be your Internet Service Provider, it could be your browser, or maybe the Civfans server was having a bad day.

Try again from the main page (not this forum stuff - I mean the Civfans homepage) and go from there. If you still have problems, maybe a different browser might do it - like Opera or Netscape rather than Microsoft's Internet Explorer (assuming you have a PC of course - I guess Mac folks go Netscape anyway).

Apart from that, only other culprit would be AOL.. if so, you might have to download the setup files on a different computer and then transfer them to yours. A pain.

I think the pain is worth it - I love GOTM - and I sympathise with you having problems.

Hi Bob1475,

I have the same problem with the browser of AOL. So I'm just using the web explorer coming with windows and all the problems are gone

Ronald

Thanks for the input. I tried this on IE rather than than the AOL browswer. I got a little further but still when I tried to download the March game I get an "illegal" IE message and it closed.

I can't believe that others are not using AOL. By the way - same thing happened on another computer I have on AOL so I don't think it is the computer.

Any other advice?

Maybe if you posted the "illegal IE" message you get it might give someone a clue...

Suspect the answer might be a more recent version of IE... but post the message and somebody else might say how they got round it.

When I tried to download a GOTM game (tried #21 now) I get the following Explorer warning:

"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor."

Details below which appears to relate to sound -

By the way, can anyone forward me via Email a copy of the game zip?

This is actually very tricky, and the GOTM staff don't like it... too much opportunity for skullduggery...

Send me a Personal Message otherwise - I've got time this evening.

EDIT: The full install for 1.29f is 5.1Mb, for PTW it's about 3.2 Mb. I hope you got a big mailbox.

EDIT2: In for a penny... Yahoo do free big mailboxes, so if you REALLY want to GOTM, get an account there and I'll help.

EDIT3: Long term, getting an update to Explorer 6 is going to help a lot... good source for these is the cover CDs from computer magazines (downloading Explorer is a nightmare).
