is there a "correct"way of using thise "attachments"?

"Attachments?" Never heard of such things in the context of Civ - could you be more specific about what it is you're downloading?

As they told me when I first starting asking questions, you will have to give more specific info.

What version of Mac OS are you running? What version of Civ III (ie have you downloaded the 1.21g patch yet?

What type of file (graphic modpack, saved game, map, etc.) are you trying to download? The downloadable files (except for saved games) are made by PC, since the Mac editor isn't out yet. Some of them will work and some won't. Go read the Macintosh sticky thread FAQ/Tech Support, it should answer some of your questions.

(See, I may be old but I DO learn!!) Heike [dance]

patches mods civs etc they appear all on my desktop as a blank peper sheet and they are all called attachment 1 atachment 2,3,4 etc
and i doni know how 2 use them, where 2 put them

Ok, the PATCH (are you sure you downloaded the MAC patch??) should be a compressed file that opens with stuffit when you download it. Go to this page:
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3patches.shtml
and look near the bottom for the MAC patch to download.

There are instructions on how to use zipped files and saved games in the "sticky" thread called:
Macintosh Tech Support/Game FAQ

It really depends whether you are using OS 9 or OS X as to how to "fix" the files so you can use them. So, I think I asked you which OS you are using the last time I posted and you still haven't said ... hard to answer your questions without critical information?

im using mac os 10.2(jaguar)really recomend that one! really hot!automatically deletes junk mail!!
o and i have civ3 v.21g...

The downloaded files should be zips then. Unstuffit automatically opens zipped files. In fact, when I download any files in IE, Netscape, or Safari, they are automatically unzipped for me and placed in my downloads folder. (Which is according to my instructions as set in the internet prefs). You should not be getting any files in MAIL, as Mail does not handle attachments very well. The graphics mods unzip as .pcx files, you have to move them into the corrrect Civ III subfolder and then the next time you start Civ III it will use them. You should back up your folders first though just in case you don't like something and want to go back to the original. Saved games, maps, and scenarios you should move to your Civ III folder and then you have to tell OS X what to open it with. Select the file, choose "Get Info" from the File Menu, then choose "Open With...". Change "show recommended applications" to "show all applications", then find the Civ III application and select it. The next time you double-click on on the file, Civ III will open it if it can. Be careful though; I'm not sure what will happen if you try to open something that isn't compatible. I was told that files created
after July of 2002 (with the PC editor that is up to 1.29 something?) will not work with Mac version 1.21g. Note also that UNIT mods will not work for us (yet) as we don't have an editor to put them in with.

Hey, have I got a good memory or what?:)
(I'm writing this on my PC at work!!)

You won't get any smarter beating your head against a wall.
Each file in a graphic mod REPLACES an existing file. So look through your CIV III subfolders and find the folder that has the files in it with the SAME NAMES as the ones you downloaded (i.e. art\terrain or whatever) and that will be the correct folder to put them in. DUH!!:aargh: *I* can't tell you which folder is the correct one because it will be different for different files, and I don't know exactly what you downloaded!

:wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: ...*wooozy*...:vomit:
oooh u r tougher to deal with than i thought...:rocket: all of the files i downloaded are called wallbash...i mean attachment 1,attachent 2 attachment 3.......attachment 23423418764 so how do i know where to put them???:wallbash:

I give up. You're doing something very wrong. After the files are downloaded by your browser, they should be unstuffed, unzipped, decompressed, whatever, by Unstuffit or a similar program, after which they will appear as a .dmg (disk image) file, an application (patch for example) or a FOLDER full of (.pcx) image files!

I can't figure out how you are getting "attachments" or what you are using to get them, but something is very wrong. In Safari for example, you click on a URL (download link) and a little downloads manager pops up and shows you what it is downloading and where it is saving it to. When it's finished downloading, Unstuffit activates automatically and unzips or unstuffs it, after which you have a FILE with the original NAME that somebody gave it when they created it. Now, where in that process do you come up with an attachment to anything??

Somebody else help me out here.. I gave it a good college try but I can't figure out what the heck he is doing. :wallbash: (my turn)

well...( :wallbash: )i click on a download link and its called 4 example canada civ and a little download manager pops up and change s the download name to "attachment"and then unzips or whatever
ps: do you know a company named "ixmal" whick makes mac software?

:wallbash: OUCH! :wallbash: i like it,aha aha, i FEEL it,AHA AHA!!! :wallbash:

Ok, lemme get a crack at this.

I assume that you are downloading the files off the forums. For some reason, sometimes it downloads as "attachment.php" for me. all I have to do is rename it "attachment.zip" (it doesn't have to be "attachment.zip", it can be "anything.zip"). Then, it just opens in Stuffit Expander. Since yours download as just attachment, attachment 1, etc, I assume you have hide all extensions enabled. Just "File-> Get Info" and go down to "Name and Extension," and change the extension to .zip. Try that. And please, stop the wall-bashing.

i cant,i like it,it calms me down, and im not wall-bashing im table bashing!
dyou know the ol' good russian expression-feisom ob teibl?
