How do I wipe out a civilization so that it will never exist on the map?

I have already conquered all the Russian cities, but the Russians are not gone yet. I wonder how I can completely wipe them out. Thank you.

They're also not considered wiped out if they have a settler alive anywhere.

Yeah, what I've noticed in some of my recent games is that an AI civ will tip to it that you plan to wipe them out if you press attacks on them.

What I've seen is that the AI will send settlers on a boat or through other civ's domains to find a quiet patch far away where they can create a 'I'm not dead yet' city or three.

The Indians did that on a recent game of mine, after I stormed Bombay and Delhi early on with my Chinese archers. They ran through the growing Japanese empire (unknownst to me) and set up three cities on the coast of the continent, among the tundra and stuff.

total BS the AI cheats, I once wiped out a landlocked civ and found them on the other side of the map.

basically the AI respawns. its that simple. don't know why but it does. really stupid.

The computer civs only "respawn" if wiped out early. Same as in Civ2 or SMAC. Later on they will in fact resort to sending out settlers as Callahan described it.

I had something like this happen in a game of mine. Right before I claimed the last Aztec city a single galley departed it and sailed up the coast. They've been sitting within my borders on my coast for the last 2000 years, no cities, wounded galley in the yellow...

Just sitting there...

I don't have the heart to tell them to get out...

When the entire world (except the demented Romans) went to war with the Chinese, they actually attacked and sunk a Chinese galley. The world is pangea but there is a small island off my coast, home to a few Egyptian cities...I think I am going to take one and give it to the poor Aztec for their centuries of being displaced. I've given them a few techs here and there as well, its just rather funny that they have probably a settler and a spearman on the galley and nothing else anywhere in the world...while everyone else has riflemen (well...I have infantry) :D

I guess I owe them something for crushing their civilization back when neither of us knew how to read.

I see a potential DataIO error: CITY in the making.

no, no, NO! I wiped out the Zulu in 1475 AD

AD!!!

and they respawned, the whole 'early wipeout, respawn' is total BS. The AI does what it feels like. Total BS.

think about it, if you were wiped out by the AI would you be given a brand new settler out of no where and a galley to take him half way around the world in one turn <poof> and make a city??

c'mon Fireaxis this is too much

I don't think the respawn has to do as much with time (or at least I haven't found an explicit mention in the manual) than whether there free space to respawn. I don't mind, I like an end game with many civs to spice up the diplomacy, and it isn't like those respawned civs are going to be a technological or military threat to me.

As for the respawn thing..I am at a loss.

I was able to wipe the Chinese like withing the first 30 turns. I was the Japanese and got a chariot right away. After my second city was built I noticed the Chinese capitol. Mao was too close..so went over there with my single Chariot and took Beijing. Next thing I know my military advisor dude informs me that I have wiped out the Chinese. I could have sworn the AI would respawn..I later found out that I was sitting on a smallish island..there wasn't anywhere for him to go.

I think where the AI cheats is with galleys. They seem to have the greatest luck moving those things all across the globe. I move one 1 square away from the coast..and it sinks. I think that is why they appear half way across the world..they cheat.

I wiped the Aztecs out before. And I do mean wiped them out. Before I attacked their last city (their 3rd respawn), one of my advisors asked if I really wanted to destroy the "fledgling Aztec civilization). I had modern armor, they had spearmen. I was doing them a favour. After sacking their last city, I got a message to the effect that "France has destroyed the Aztec civilization." All you have to do is be persistant and keep attacking their respawns, they seem to give up after a while.

They never respawned again. Burn in hell Monty!
