How do i...

They are turned-off in the Play-The-World version of the Civ3 Game Of The Month.

I think the way this is done is to go into the editor, and set the game up as a scenario. You can either turn them off completely, or just make it a few thousand worker turns to build one. :)

Yes, you just change the worker actions. I'll have to check, but I think there's a worker action button in the Edit Units page for worker that is 'Create Radar Tower' or somesuch. You should be able to just turn it off.

I'll check, and post back.

Edit: Open the Civ3 editor. Click on 'Scenario' and select 'Custom Rules'. There will be a dialog box opening up, click 'okay'. There was a drop down box that was greyed out, it is now active. Click on the drop down, select 'Units'. When the dialog pages opens up, click the dropdown again on Units, and select Worker. It should be the second on. On the right side, there is an option box called Worker/Engineer Actions. The last one on the right side is 'Build Radar Tower.' Uncheck this, and save the scenario, calling it whatever you want. Close the editor.

Next, open PTW, and on the main page, click on 'Load Scenario.' Then find your filename for the NoRadarTowerWorkers, and load it up. Since you didn't create a map with the editor, it will use just the rules, and everything else will be normal.

However, since this is a scenario now, this will be ineligible for HOF games. Nor will your score be recorded.

Well, i'm thinking that if there were no radar towers then the fortress would be more important. Plus they give SUCH a huge advantage to the defensive side.

how do u get radar towers?

First you research Radio and build a worker, then move the worker to the place you want Radar Tower, then build it just like outpost or airbase

I think you'll find that the AI seldom if ever builds fortresses, whether radar towers are available or not. Even in Vanilla Civ they didn't. Seems like there would be a middle ground between no fortresses and radar towers popping up like mushrooms.

I never build Radar Towers, I find them a nuisance. I don't like things that consume workers. I find out what is in enemy territory by invading hordes of ModArm

Radar towers can make the difference between losing a city and keeping it. The 25% defensive bonus can come in really handy. Yes, it's a pain to lose the worker. But I'd rather lose the worker and keep the city. ;) That's just me, tho.

I didn't know that Radar Towers provided a 25% defensive bonus.

Well, I guess you learn something new every day.

It also gives a 25% bonus to attack. . . so they are pretty useful. At least to this civ player they are.

I must have drank too much beer tonight. . .I keep forgetting to add things.

Two tile limit outwards from the tile with the radar tower. This is like the 'fat x' city view, but there are no squares cut out.

The unit that is being attacked must be withing the two tile limit in order to receive the bonus. That means, if your attacking unit is on square two, and attacking a unit on square three, there is no bonus. But that same unit on tile two will recieve a 25% defensive bonus, since it's 'inside the circle'.

And it's stackable with walls and civil defense.

One of the better additons to PTW, IMHO.
