what are the requiremnts for a commoner to become one of the sacred ones? :D

no, seriously, what are the parameters to choose a new moderator?
I mean, from the moderatos we have already the have very different personalities (at least in the forums)
no that they're good or bad, but they react very different in some cases.
or they have to pay a tax? ;)
just curious

:)

Tax? No, but it helps to have enough "spare change" to be able to keep the staff fridge stocked with beer. ;)

If you want to be a mod, post often, follow the forum rules, and be helpful. That would increase your odd of becoming a mod. ;)
And of course, you have to be available when TF decides he needs another mod. Right now, I think the numbers are about right.

Besides, why would anyone want to be a mod? When I think of some of the flames I've received from some people in the last month ... People I would have just ignored before, now I have to deal with directly. Basically, I think modship should be something like political office should be: people who *want* the position of power should be automatically barred from ever holding the office.

Or play a PBEM against Padma and lose on purpose for suck up points ;)

But of course, I won't lose on purpose.

Why does this question crop up every month?

There is no straight road, my son.
Thunderfall gets the final say, and apparently being nice to posters, a helpful attitude and having a clean record count for much...

That's me out of the question!

so, that's the real trick isnt it?

Enemy Ace as moderator? knock knock, Curt, wake up! :p

A few months ago I would have thought myself a possible candidate for modship, but my record isn't as clean anymore ...

Yes, it's a choice made by Thunderfall, and I think that current moderators both nominate and have influence on the decision for future moderators.

Well, the problem is the newest mod "gets" to keep the fridge stocked. And when Sun Tzu left, he "raided" the fridge, and cleaned it out. I only just finished re-stocking last weekend. ( I just hope Lefty doesn't find out I've been re-filling the fine wine bottles - with Mogen David. I had to cut corners somewhere. )

The way I see it Curt was indicating his obvious "non-compliance with specifications". ;)

:crazyeye:
I think I should read more carefully next time :lol:
so, rep is important too? :hmm: does TF has a Reputometer or something like that?
:)

Moderators make entries of poster offenses in their private forum.

The algoritm for calculating Reputation has never been fully disclosed. A sure test is to offer gold per turn for something. If it is refused: "He would never accept such a deal!" then you can be sure your rep is shot. ;)

Indeed. Nearly everything we do is logged. Like "PosterX banned for 2 weeks for trolling, flaming, and general moderataor bashing in this post." Or "Poster Y warned for asking for a no-cd crack here." And "special" posters may even get a thread of their own, so we can take extra care in tracking them.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see if I had my own thread :mischief:...

It's kind of flattering, in a way .

 you mean that if my name is in that thread Im in trouble? then Im in a big s**t

:lol::lol::lol:
I inmediately clicked in the link and I was shocked

I have to agree with padma... Why would you WANT to be a mod? Im sure it's not as fun and cool as it looks to be (just look at the sitution AoA has been in the last month or two).

Also... How you become a mod... Well... Join the Demogame!!! The last 3 mods were active members of the demogame!! (Padma, Chieftess, and Gonzo :))

This does not mean under any reason that you will become a mod. This advertisement was made to persuade people to join the demogame

Can I have a special thread designated to me? I've always wanted to see a thread called Strider, but forum rules forbid me from posting one ;)

The situation was people trying to tell us how to run our web site.

That situtaion is over, never to be repeated.

People who cause us trouble can forget becoming staff members.

I am completely fascinated at the prospect of a 'private forum' where mods document the trouble makers and such. I would give anything to be able to browse it.

#3 among my list of reasons I attend this site is to watch the drama between the hard-line mods and the trolls, miscreants, and hot-headed newbies.

Am I the only one who finds this stuff fascinating?

I wonder if I have been discussed, or labeled a trouble maker yet. I got dinged for thread-jacking once, and also cited for a short flame fight with Lt. Killer, who now ignores me (before we even got to know each other, le sigh).

I find it fascinating how fast someone can get themselves banned when insulting or challenging a mod.

Also.. I doubt that you didi enough to get into "big" trouble. (remembers the time when he got into a flame war with Shaitan... Never saw a mod warn himself before :))

I find that... scary.

Do you also make psychological profiles ( eg : this guy is a weirdo, a racist, etc) ?

Do I have a thread ( I hope not since that would mean I'd be a notorious trouble-maker, but since I've been banned twice who knows ? ;)

I sorta would not be a mod.

Too much responsibility and I would have to go to the site too much.

And too many people mad at me......;)
