How do you do stack moves?

Hello.

I have Vanilla 1.29f and can't master the subtleties of stack move. Sounds dumb, he?
The readme says you have to hit "j", but it doesn't work the way I expected it: I still have to click on the destination (not click-and-drag, thanks God, but still click) once per unit in the stack. Furthermore, if the destination square already contains units, it wakes them, aborting the stack move process.
So, the problem remains: how can I select a whole stack and assign a destination to all its units in one move?

hey morchuflex,

first let me ask you a question:
do you click the first unit or the top unit in the stack of units and while its highlighted do you press "j" and then move the unit to the square you want to move to

if you do then i'm not sure what is the problem because it works for me and i also have only vanilla civ3 v1.29f installed and also i'm a newbie ;)

I think that's what I do... Do I need to keep pressing the j key while moving the top unit? Do I release it? when?

press j, release it, and click on your destination.

Well, that's exactly what I do and it doesn't work (just kept trying the last ten minutes).
Help!!!

Hmm... It only works with units of the same type. Although I can't see why you would move a complete mixture of units...

Now I understand! I've been trying to move settlers together with warriors to go and found new cities.
I'll try with units of the same type, just to be sure.

Wow! I really didn't expect that to be the problem. I just put that there because I wanted to cover all the possibilities.

Well, just tried with two warriors. It works. I just didn't know units had to be of the same type.
End of mystery.
Thanks everyone for trying to help.

I think there's another command for all units in the same square, but I don't know what it is... maybe x or q?

I do that all the time. I normally create battle groups consisting of a number of different units, defence, offence and bombardment. In modern ages, a typical battle group consists of: infantry/mech inf, modern armor, mobile SAMs, artillery and maybe an army or two. Instoppable!

Well, it would be nice if someone could confirm that! I tried x and q to no avail.

Here are all the 'go to' commend on CIV III.

g : go to for a single unit
j : go to for stack of same type of units
Ctrl-Shift-g : go to city

But it would have a least on duplicate unit! That would mean you see an effect to the J button.

try shift-j.. I'm glad in PTW and C3C that j moves all unfortified units, rather than just units of the same type..
