So how do you like to choose your map settings? What I'm referring to here is land/water percentage, pangea or islands, and the climate/terrain conditions. Do you prefer totally random, do you like to choose them according to the civ-specific traits, or is there a setting that you like to use in general? If you like to use a particular setting all the time, please specify what your settings are.

Personally, when I started playing civ, I used to use random conditions. As of late, I have found it enjoyable to maximize the benefits of a particular civ trait by matching it with the map settings.

I play Large, Temperate, Continents every game unless I specifically want to try a different type.

That gives me the most typical civ experience, IMO, and the most historically accurate.

I tend to play Tiny maps with AP. This is because I have very little time to play Civ III (about 2-3 hours per week), and I like to finish a game in one sitting (usually an hour)

I like archipelago with 60% water, 4 billion years on modified huge maps with significantly more than 200*200 tiles (although thanks to the bloody 512 city limitation anything more just results in large areas of the world staying empty :( )

That gives large continents, huge oceans and some pretty nice islands in between.

yes same here

I always play on huge maps, but everything else would depend on my current mood
