How do you play custom maps online?

I have modified a scenario and can load it in-game on singleplayer. But my Friend and I would like to play the game together, and I would like to know how to play it online.

When I host a server and pick the map it gives me a "text/...." Error. How can I fix this?

Usually games like this go via LAN or Email, I am told, but V is right, we need the complete message.
