mmm... civ3 has gotten extremely boring... What type of things do you all use to add a bit of "zazz" to your game?

Well, I have yet to get to the "civ 3 is really boring" stage yet, but may I suggest:

1. Higher Difficulty Level
2. Modpacks!
3. Play the GOTM
4. Try for a place in the HoF
5. Lay off the Civ III for a while (gasp)

I haven't even come close to running out of varieties of game yet. Try varying your style of play and mixing up the civs you play as. Here's a few suggestions of some I've tried and some I've got on my list:

Play as a religious civ and adopt a strict pacificist role - it can be done cos I've tried it.

Play as militataristic and be a real bad guy.

Play on archipelago and go for maximum growth and trust that you won't need too much defense (early on anyway).

Play the navy game (I've never tried this) - play as English and see if you can really 'rule the waves' with those Man'o'Wars.

Expand on to two continents and see if you can run a split empire (hint save your Forbiden Palace for second continent!).

Try some 'what if's - i.e. if you've got to the point where you have to choose whether to enter a fullscale war or not - try one way and later reload the game and try the alternative approach - did you choose right first time round?

Of course (as has been said) you can also try modpacks, user-maps etc. But there's a huge amount you can do with the standard game and learn a lot in the process.

get modpacks. I would suggest plutaricks modpack from this sites download section. Execellent modpack! It adds like 20 extra units, about same number of building and and realism to the game. You can alos tinker with this mod to your liking. I fixed it so I had an ultra realistic world(my bobmers still cant kill but thats the only disadvantage). Like no longer do you have tanks tanks and more tanks in modern age. You actually have to depend on new infentry units added with his mod. Alos seabattle have been made fair. Some people complained of crashes with his mod but I havent had any related to his mod.

set goals!

"I`ll take over the Aztecs by culture, taking no more then 1/3 of their towns by force"

"We`ll vote every time for the UN, but there will always be a draw" very challenging!

"I`ll take over the World (huge) with nothing but ancient units" takes millions of catapults - but is doable on monarch :D

and so on...

the best of them all:

I wait for MP

I set limits for stuff in my game. For example, in my current game, as the French I am limiting myself to a small portion of land, giving back conqured cities, and trying to maintain strict neutrality. As I give ROPs to everybody, it was interesting to see a greek-roman war get pushed back into my borders.

On an unrelated note, I love how the the Musketeers have a fake French laugh.

Try a diplomatic victory.

Well the only level that can challenge me is diety. Those other guys are pretty tough. :D

Really i play on regent/ monarch area.

Something I've found very challenging is to keep 2 AI Civs at war for a long period of time. Try that for a hundred turns or so.

Looks like Civ III will have "legs" until about May. That's a mere six months. Civ II had "legs" for five years and counting. :(

As for Plutarck's excellent LWC mod, it is indeed great. And is everyting the rushed, slapped-together Firaxis game mod should have been. BUT BEWARE: there have been concerns about crashes especially with patch 1.17. But 1.17 isn't so hot anyway. Try it with 1.16. The LWC mod is worth taking a chance on.

Some of you guys are getting bored of Civ3 already? Geez......and I thought ADHD kids had short attention spans. :D

Seriously though, just do what I do.......moderate the amount that you play. I just recently completed a game in which I won a space race victory, that was 3 days ago. I have laid off the game during the past 3 days, and soon I'll be all hyped up to start another. I feel like playing again today, actually.......:)

But yeah, an expansion pack would do wonders for this game's longevity, some new civs, units, or city graphics would really spice it up for me and start the love-in I have with this game all over again. :goodjob:

Bottom line, don't over-play it. That can kill ANY game, no matter how good it is.
