How do you quickly get a civilization to no longer be "furious"?

I always have relatively bad relations with my neighbors, and therefore, when I'm under attack, no one is willing to help me! Is their anyway to quickly turn them from furious to gracious? Or do I just have to consistently not piss them off from the beginning?

The latter. :) In particular, try not to break deals and agreements, and don't raze cities (even the size 1 cities that get razed automatically).

Sometimes paying for ROP plus MPP or alliance can help a great deal, but the effect will go away as soon as the deal ends.

There is a point of no return if you get a civ too furious with you. But if the civ is just barely furious you can try gifting 100 gold and signing RoP and MPP. MA temporarily increases your rep as well. Also make sure to trade with them every 20 turns I think it is.

time is the only answer, and if ur a civ like the mongols and the chinese ar furious with u then time might even not be the answer.
Then just follow:

ville
and rentata's advice.

If they're furious you must have done something really bad to get them so pissed at you. Mostly they'll be annoyed at you - but to be furious, something awful. This is usually self-inflicted so avoid pissing them off.

For example, Rome was polite to me. Then I absorbed a city and disbanded it, and he was furious at me for the whole time. Through deals he only got "annoyed" but would always return to "furious" after a few turns.

In my gotm16-rome game, everyone would be annoyed at me but never furious. The only time they were furious was when Germany declared war on me :(

easy. take over all of their cities and boot their leader out of the game ;) they will be quite happy as citizens of the Empire of Beanzy hehehe

however sometimes theres nothing you can really do. if you declare war against a civ over and over (ie war, get waht you want, sign a truce, then later reinvade) the other countries really start to hate you. but if you are successful in your military campaigns it shouldn't matter much.
