How does diplomacy work?

Hi,

I know this is a stupid question , but how do i open the diplomacy screen. I've managed to open some sort of a screen, but i don't have a lot of options. There are only "Let's discuss something else" or declare war options. How do i for instace open the trade tecnology screen?

You trade tech on the same screen you're looking at -- but you won't get that option until you acquire Alphabet, the technology necessary for tech-trading. Even then, you won't see an option to trade tech unless either you or your trading partner is ahead of the other on tech. And even then, your trade partner may list a tech in red, meaning you have no chance at it.

Ok. What do i need to acquire to suggest open borders, military alliances etc. Do i need to build an embassy?
