how does it works when you buy the download

my cousin wants to buy civ4 to play with me and no stores carry it up way north in Val D'or . when you buy that download how does it works? you burn the image or it plays without the cd. what happens if the download fails through out the middle.

Who are your looking to buy it through? I am not sure how direct2harddrive works. but steam should work fine. It has an inbuilt download/update manager and you won't need a CD or image to play.

If fact with the latest patch, even if you have the store brought version you don't need a cd to play.
