how does medieval era civilization have infantry?

like on picture, I am fighting empire that is in medieval era, and they have infantry? also anyone know what is anti warmonger fervor, is it some event for other civs?

There is a world congress project where one of the lower-tier rewards is an infantry unit. I'd guess it's from that.

Anti-warmonger fervor is a penalty against civs that have done a lot of warmongering. When they are invading another civ, the defending civ has a combat bonus in friendly territory.

I guess the more valid question is how bad have it been for the Zulu if they have an archer in their capital while you are sitting outside with paratroopers.

Did they come back to life? Otherwise the units just doesn't make any kind of sense. AI would not have an archer if they have infantry.

But as noted that infantry can be from a project (bronze at Global Wargames gives one infantry unit), it could spawn if their cities are being burned to the ground or it can be from "Freedom-Self-Determination" (second tier pick; liberated city spawns six units and an arsenal) where someone brings them back or liberates them and it's spawns six units in their city.

I was ahead in tech, a lot of conquest this game but yeah they were one of smallest and weakest civs on map, other ones were doing better
