How due to choose "type" of alien planet

I may be missing something, but how to you chose type of alien planet?

Only options I see in regular (non-advanced) screen is to chose planets based on terrain type (with fancy words instead of archipelago, continents and pangaea).

You do need to go to Advanced Setup to specify the biome type. When setting up a game, the Advanced Setup button is in to top right of the screen. Among the Advanced Setup options is Terrain Type. It defaults to Random, but specific choices are Lush, Fungal and Desert.

If it's like the later Civ V Vanilla patches (or G&K / BNW) then if you've selected an option in advanced start once it will remember it the next time without going to advanced start.
