You can just right click on the button and go on with your daily life. It still counts, and beats losing time you will never have again.

For the obsessed out there:

It's easy to hold it a very long time. You simply leave your computer open, click the button, then duck-tape your left mouse button in a "pressed" position. Think of it as a small vacation.
