How many different versions of Civ IV are there?

I am currently living in Germany and would really like to buy this game but would like it in English. I have read that the EU version has 4 different languages on it including English and German, but when I asked at the store I was told it was only in German.

Could Germany have its own version?


I have had this happen to me with Fable II in Spain, the Spanish version ONLY had Spanish but the UK and USA versions had 8-9 different languages.

Just want to make sure before I spend money on another game and cant play it.

When I pick English as the installer language in my German version, the game was installed in english. Alternatively the language should be changeable in the civilizationIV.ini.

The game has english, german, spanish, french and italian text by default and you can change it in the options screen - regardless of the install language.
What you need to take care of though are the speech files (tech quotes) since the German version installs the German speech files when you choose German as install language and the English speech files when you choose English as install language - and that is not easy to change short of a reinstall.
