umm... if you dont have a horse or iron in your territory, what will you do??

No war no conquer, must self expand.
pioneer self producing In addition have produce builder for develop multi.
In this situation, havent build district cause spend a lot of produce for them.
Less district= low tech,culture,economy,etc..

So say i go for the war!!
Also not easy. No resource, although cross bow and catapult availiable, cannot have knights and swordman!!!!!
Pikeman is too bad cause its low strength
And penalty for toddler units..

Only solution is use unique unit??

If you get to crossbows early, they're a decent enough tool. Just need to come with more units.

And then by the mid-game, you should be able to find iron/horse/niter to get troops then.

You can trade for horse/iron or try to get suzerain with a CS that give horse/iron. You can also use Magnus Black Marketeer ability (Strategic resources are not required in the city in order to build resource dependent units).

The AI seems to be using a lot of cavalry in early game, if that's the case Pikeman will actually be quite powerful and you need melee units to take cities. Well positioned crossbows are enough to eat through AI's units, with a few Pikeman to siege/take cities and potentially take the hit if a crossbow is in a bad position.

What civ are you playing?

Go for great generals. Slot the card and buy one if you must. Archers + Oligarchy Spears + Ram + Chariots with a GG will hold their own, as well as later on with just crossbow/pike. Also forward encampments. (especially good if you are China because with the crouching tiger, those encampments will explode everything)

Hey, nobody said it was going to be pretty.
