how to connect to trade network

I came upon this interesting situation where I cannot connect the city of St. Petersburg to Moscow by trade. It does not sit next to a water tile to build harbor, and I cannot build roads since it is sitting on an island. I deliberately plotted the city on that tile so I could get access to most resources.

Does this situation look impossible to fix? Is St. Petersburg doomed to be left out of the trade network?

Unfortunately u should have founded the city on the coast and built a harbor to connect it.

Please don't quote me, but I think that things like this will be handled better with BMW where u can connect them with domestic trade routes. If I misunderstood it, I would be interested in hearing otherwise. I'll probably make another thread that focuses further on that question though.

Should be able to do an internal trade route in BNW, but, based on what we know today, internal trade routes will only transfer hammers or food, and will not generate gold.

The existing road- and harbor-based "trade routes" will be renamed "city connections" and will generate gold in more or less the same fashion they do today (based on what I've read and seen from demos).

I remember that Civ III had airports to allow a city like this to be connected to the trade network. Unfortunately CiV doesn't have airports anymore, or airlifting of units.

Of much larger concern are your tiny city sizes and, correspondingly, exceedingly small science output... frankly you should be worried about that, not a trade route netting you at best 2gpt.
