HI guys,

I have downloaded a portable version of Civ 2 - gold (lost my CD)

I'm playing the Rome -alexander the great scenario.
But how can I disbable the tech tree or certain techs?

I am playing it on hardest and my opponenst are like running around with musketeers after 20 turns... this is not fun or historical correct.

I want to disable certain techs or all at once so they don't evolve and I can play in the phalanx chariots setting for as logn as i want!

I rember this from playing when I was a kid; that only certain techs were available and they were very limited...

any ideas?

many thanks in advance!

You can edit the rules.txt file. But your problem is very likely some place else. Scenarios are designed for circumventing the game's normal circumstances. What you describe is extremely unlikely in a normal game.

Yes, like saving games in the wrong folder. Games should be saved in the Alexander the Great folder. If that's not the problem, then it's a design issue.

Editing rules.txt allows you to remove technologies from the research tree, and prevent them from being traded, stolen or captured (using 'no' prerequisites in the @CIVILIZE table), but they can't actually be disabled once in a tribe's possession. You'd need to take them away via Edit Technologies in the Cheat menu. It would be better to start over again.

Be careful when editing @CIVILIZE; the AI needs an unbroken path to Future Technology. If the AI runs out of technologies to research, the game will crash.

hey catfish, many thanks will try and edit all techs I dont like with adding 'no' to the Prerequisites and leaving 'Future Technology' at the end.

thanks for this great reply!
+ 1 internet for you :)
