How to find product key in registry?

Here's my problem:

For an unknown reason maps that I created in the SDK and tried to transfer manually caused my MODS folder to stop working properly. I have no idea why, but I have no idea how to find out.

My solution to this is to try and completely re-install my game by deleting the local files from Steam and also getting it out of the registry.

Here's the catch: I've lost my booklet that contains the product key that is needed in order to restart. That is why I need to go deep into the registry to find it, so that I'll be able to re-install it.

How do I find my old product key without the booklet?

You shouldn't need the product key to re-install the game, since the key is linked to your Steam account.

Have you tried verifying your game cache? I'd do that first, before downloading several GBs of game.

I know that I can immediately reinstall it through steam but the problem is that none of the files are actually fixed or work like they used to. (I already tried that method) This is why I might also need to get another Steam account after I reinstall.

How would I go about verifying the game cache?

Edit: Just found out how

That won't work since your key is locked to the Steam account. Getting another account you would have to buy another copy of the game. Sorry I don't do modding and I bought the game directly from Steam. No idea where the key would be stored.

Well the key has to be in the registry somewhere and I know that it actually is possible to have another steam account because I just made another one.

Maybe if I re-register the game on the same account after I reinstall?

Nop, the key you used to install the game is locked to your old account, you won't be able to use it again. But I don't get why you are using another account. There's no way creating a map could mess your registry. Even messing up your registry can't change anything about the way Civ5 is linked to your steam account.

Edit: Have you verified your local file with steam? Go to library, right click on Civilization 5, go to properties then in the Local Files tabs use Verify integrity of Local Files.

If that don't work, in the same tab you can delete local files (it will delete your civ5 folder/uninstall the game), then you can redownload/reinstall it.

I'm not using a new steam account.

If anyone can help me fix my original problem that would be just as good.

What happened is that a couple of months ago, I created a scenario called
World War II (U3X) and then used the same map for a different mod called Mother Earth. I have no idea how the problem was created but when I re-download my scenarios, then it doesn't actually show that the files are getting copied. In addition, the scenarios don't even show up in the list of maps that are available to play, even though I enabled it.

Edit: Yes I've done the file verification a couple of times now

And using Steam for reinstalling the game never works. It just seems to make the game inaccessible and dormant.

I read somewhere when the game was released, that you have to change the mod id in the .modinfo file. Maybe it's related, but really I don't know enough about modding this game to really help you sorry.

I'm asking Steam support if it's possible for them to change my files to as if they were factory fresh

Log into Steam, go to the Library page, right click on Civilization V, Delete Local Content, reinstall the game either with the discs or just download the entire thing by clicking on the (now uninstalled) Civilization V in your list of games. Play and enjoy.

The product key is already tied to your Steam file, you do not need it ever again nor can you use it with another Steam account anyway.

That process was the first thing I tried but the game never reloads as if it were fixed.

Then you are doing something wrong or the files got corrupted. Right click on Civ5 (in Steam), go to Properties, Local Files, and Verifiy Cache.

If that still doesn't work, uninstall again, go to your Steam folder, delete Civ5 and reinstall.

Done both of those 3 times now and another now that you've said it again. I've become an expert at the conventional solutions.

Edit: I didn't try that steam folder one let me give it a try
