Well i'm playing a game as Ljosalfar and I started out as at peace with the animals. But this spider lair popped up right exactly where I want to build my next city. How can I get rid of it ? The explore lair button is inactive!

Stuff like that happens sometimes. I guess one could look at it as the price of being at peace with "nature". I think that the least frustrating way to remove it is to cheat. Just open the Worldbuilder and remove it from the map.

The other way is to declare war on the animals, but since it sounds like you're just starting it might feel like a waste. You can of course simply wait for a nearby AI to remove it. Hippus seems especially keen on hunting down all the animals they find.

I guess that, seeing that the forest is filled with a spider tribe, the Ljosalfar would say: "Let them be, let search another spot." Maybe one or two elves would stay nearby, watching the spiders and spiderlings living their lives, preying on the small wolves passing by. Then the two elves would get back happily with the rest of the expedition.

That is a price you pay for a pace with animals. Just treat it as your source of aminals for totems/spider pens.
I know it is annoying if the improvement is on resource tile, but it will get removed in time. Just remove the animals and let the AI in.

I thought of a mechanics to remove/claim the den, but decided it has more flavour as it is.
Charadon and orcs can't remove goblin forts or ruins either - it was in FfH all the time.

How can that be done?

Btw, love what you did with the Ljosofar. Took me a while to realize that I diod not have to flee from all Hill Giants.

You will have to in .24 as they won't be animals anymore :p

Well, technically in 23d they are animals only regarding movement restrictions and bonuses gained by scouts/hunters (and that indeed is going to change in 24).
They belong to barbarian orcs and can attack elves. But you are safe from animals, including beasts -griffons, giant spiders etc.

How does one declare war on animals? It is extremely annoying playing as mahala and not being able to use my resource tiles... that and having 4 tiles in my cities BFC being animal dens is VERY annoying.

I get how to declare war on the barbarians. But i reaaaaly want to get rid of those damn dens, without opening my borders up to some silly ass comp.

what if dens acted as cities for those who are allied with the animals? That way they would get the resources if it were a critical one (like copper), and it would be a place of refuge. It could act as a city but not as big of a defense like a city provides.
