How to limit to a certain era? Any mods or utilities?

Hey, so I've been playing Civ 4 a lot lately, but one thing that bugs me is that the era changes too fast for me. While I'm still in the process of building cities and establishing a firm empire, I'm already at the industrial age and have to make gunpowder units to fight.

I'd rather like to fight with ancient units such as the Roman legion in a war and have it limited to that. But I can't choose to limit the game to a certain era in the game options, so I was wondering if there is a way to do so? Could anyone help me out with that?

Thanks a lot!

Ah come on guys (and gals :p), this doesn't seem like too hard of a task and I'm sure more players would've enjoyed limiting this.

Please some help.:mischief:

I don't have Beyond the Sword, I only have Civ 4 itself. :(

Is there any way I can still use it? If so how do I copy it to my games folder or...?

Eww, no, I don't have a version for vanilla, I didn't write the mod till warlords and I don't think I have those versions on my modding computer anymore. Sorry.

You can quite easily make this yourself as a mod.

Create a folder like this (where LimitedEra is the name of your mod):

/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Mods/LimitedEra/Assets/XML/Technologies

Copy Civ4TechInfos.xml from /Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Assets/XML/Technologies to your newly created folder.

Open that file in Notepad and disable all the technologies you don't want by changing

<bDisable>0</bDisable>

to

<bDisable>1</bDisable>

Another thing to consider is to play with a slower gamespeed, when everything progresses slower, so you get to do more with your units. If you are playing Normal, try Epic.
