Hi everyone. I was mucking about the regedit today. The desktop tab was missing from the display properties for some reason and I had to restore it, then I found out I couldn't change the desktop wallpaper. So I had to go into the regedit and delete a few keys in there and it worked, I can change the wallpaper on my desktop. The problem now is all the icon labels have blue boxes around them which ruins the wallpaper. Before the icon labels were transparent except for the drop shadow (you can see the label but not the box). How can I make them transparent again?

I've tried the usual suggestions on the web:
- Right-click on the desktop, point to Arrange Icons By, then make sure Lock Web Items on Desktop is unchecked.
- Select Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop in System Properties --> Performance --> Settings
- Cleared all web content

None of these work. Can anyone help? :please: Thank you.

I'd swear it was Drop Shadows as well, but it might be another one of the Performance settings. Try turning them all on... :crazyeye:

I should say that I deleted some stuff in the regedit. One was Wallpaper at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \Policies\System. The others were in the Active Desktop folder in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies. They had to be deleted because I wasn't able to change the wallpaper, but it might be the cause of the problem here.

Could you restore the registry and check each of them to be the "missing" one?
