Looking for help doing this. Basically I hate tech trading in all 4x games as it's mindless busywork and speeds up tech advancement too much. Help on how to disable this feature would be appreciated.
Wow thanks, just checked and there is an option there. Just a matter of activating scenario editor before game and turning off tech trading. Still, it's kind of an annoyance, does anyone have a way to permanently disable tech trading?

I think that using the scenario editor is the only way to disable tech trading. You might want to try a couple of no-tech-trading games to see how it works. The AI might be disadvantaged since they rely on tech trades to keep up with the human player's research.
Yeah I played without tech trading bit today as the Hive. I couldn't see the AI's exact tech level, however their military tech was always on par with mine and often a bit better. With tech trading on I always used to crush the AI in the technology game, so this kinda contrasts with that. Though this could simply be due to the fact that my test runs only lasted ~150 turns and Yang has a relatively slow start.
Although even if the AI is disadvantaged it doesn't really matter. The AI is so incompetent that it's almost inconsequential - basically they just slow you down a bit and force you to divert resources away from economy. So I don't really care what the AI does, since it doesn't have a fundamental effect on gameplay.
