If you have the gold and say you want to build a barracks or any other structure, but it takes 30 turns to complete, can I use my extra gold to pay off the barracks and have it completed in 1 turn?:confused: :)

yes but only if you have the correct form of government, I beilive it is "Universal Sufferage" but I could be wrong

So ONLY after completing Universal Sufferage, I can pay off building and units with gold in 1 turn?

I can't do this at the beginning of each game?:cry:

Universal Suffrage Medium Democracy +1 hammer from town;
Can spend gold to finish production;

If you want to do that, rush for the pyramid. I find that usually I don't get enough money per turn to really hurry building using gold, not unless I just used my great person for a trade mission. I find myself using representation when I get the pyramid, so that my research is bumped up if I have specialists (which some wonders provides free specialists).

However, a new form of hurrying production has been added to the early game. Chopping down trees and forests now yields hammers straight to the nearest local city, hurrying the unit or structure being produced in that city. You can also use the Slavery civic to hurry production with population, if you have tons of food but very few production sources around a city.

Now, at the beginning of the game you can concentrate your economy on research, and trade spare gold for techonolgies in diplomacy (once you get Currency). Later on you gain the ability to also use gold for hurrying production (through Universal Sufferage), and gold can be used to upgrade units regardless of your current civics.

With endgame civic choices, Representation boosts economy, research, and happiness; Police State boosts warmongering, and Universal Sufferage boosts production.
