How to poprush in democracy/republic

Portuguese asked:

To Evincar: Even if you start building a building (palace, for example...) and you rush it, then switching to a wonder? Can't we switch to a wonder after disbanding a unit?

Palace, Forbidden Palace, small and great wonders can not be rushed in any form. If you start a city improvement like a marketplace, then rush it with forest cut down, unit disbandment, etc., you can not then switch to palace(s) or wonder(s).

The only way to rush a palace or a wonder is with a leader.
The leader completes it the very next turn.

I think some of you may be missing the best use of this strategy. You don't really want to use it as much in your core cities, what you CAN use it in is those 100% corrupt cities, which you will have a lot of if you ICS. So, you can have say 100 cities, with say 40 cities in a productive uncorrupt core and 60 cities churning out 22 shields every few turns via draft/disbanding. Check out:

This should give you a good idea as to how best use this method of pop rushing. It is powerful, very very powerful.

If for some reason you happen to be a communist, this method creates less unhappiness. It works for Demo or Rep tho.

Wealth: 4 shields (after econ)= 1 gold. If u use that gold to hurry, 4 gold= 1 shield. So it actually costs 4x4= 16 shields to get 1 shield. Disbanding conscripts is much more cost effective, because in effect you are converting food and happiness (or luxury investment) to shields. If u build a unit and then disband it, it is still cheaper than wealth (cost of unit divided by 4, e.g. 80 shield unit = 20 shields), but not as "cheap" as using conscripts.

Wasn't the line of Demarcation for the NEW world only? And how far into Africa did the Portuguese penetrate? And how many pox infested blankets did they pass out to the natives?

Tordesilhas? No, it was a treaty to avoid World War between the 2 super pwers at the time, establishing influence areas outside crowded Europe...

Africa has it's own natives and Portugal had ~1 million population, so we just build fortress to establish powerfull bases to negotiate merchandise and to control access to the best goods at the best prices. We also tried to convert them to christians with missionaries. When there was an established ruler, we would negotiate with it or force him to give us what we want: we hadn't pop for more...
Imagine ni CIV3 that you have little pop, with little pop growing, but a enormous new territory with only a few civs completely backwards, and an army with knights, pikemen, and man-o-wars. What would you do?

During history, Europe has been massacred with plagues. We kept the virus, but gain resistance to them. Therefore, they lived in our bodies happily, but when people without resistance had contact with them, what would you expect? WE (Portuguese) never massacred indians like Spanish did, but we didn't have a public health care system at the time...

I trully like being Portuguese. As it has been said: "Portuguese has Portugal as their birthplace, but the world as their graveyard
In every corner of the world there is a Portuguese person, and it has been this way since the 16th century.
Portigal has rulled... :D
