How to save a game on a PS2?

Just got a PS2 with GTA Liberty City. I can get to a menu with "Delete Game", "New Game" and "Load Game", but I can't find any way to Save a game. How do you do it ???

I'm a complete noob wrt console games, so this is probably something stupid and simple. Yes, a memory card has been inserted (but I don't know if it works).

IIRC you can only do so inside your "house" where a save icon appears

and if you do have gone to this check point and aren't able to save yet, plug in an memory card.

Go into your bios first and format the memory card !!!!!
start the PS2 without a game and it will boot into the bios menu.
