how do you save a web page when there is no drop-down menus at the top? For example a site purposely opens a new link, and there is no file/edit/etc. bar at the top. I can select all and copy, but I really want to save the .html if possible. Surely I don't need to download some kind of extra software. There must be a way IE will let you do this, but I can't figure it out. Of course firefox is my normal browser, and with that one you can always right-click anywhere on the page and save. But I have to use IE, for this instance.

I'm using the latest IE. Just came with Vista. But in the window (of the page I want to save), there's NO menu bars, etc. Nothing. There must be some way to save the page...

thanks

try control-s

edit: just use firefox ;)

can't in this instance, as I said -- and I thought of ctrl+s, no joy

Press alt.

not working, since there's no pull-down menu bar (it doesn't appear - nothing happens). basically the window opens, and the only thing you can do besides click buttons inside the window is resize, maximize/minimize and close... unless you know the 'trick'.

No Home button, Print, feeds, Page, Tools, tabs, Favorites...?
If not, then you have one seriously messed up version of IE.

yeah, of course it has all that stuff. In fact it has more menu bars that I find to be practical. Thing is, when you open THIS web page, they're all absent.

Your context menu (i.e. right-click menu), browser menu, etc. are disabled by that page's JavaScript.

You can use FireFox, together with the extension called NoScript, you can control what JavaScript you allow to run.

The site author might be just trying to be annoying and disabled all the menu. Using JavaScript to protect content is an ancient, obsolete technique, one doomed to failure these days.

But it might also because the materials on the site are copy-righted, so they are protecting it with a just cause (but an out-dated method).

Or the page is generated dynamically when you visit, so there's no point in saving it anyway.

File-Save As works, too.

Sounds like the website is popping open a new window, with all of the controls disabled, correct? And you can't use the right-click menu, either?

I would probably look at the source of the page that opens the new window. See if you can determine the address of the page in the pop up window. Then put that into your address bar and try going directly to the page, rather than using the link.

If that doesn't work, maybe you could post the link here? One of us might be able to figure it out ...
