So, whenever I dl someone's graphics (leaderheads, units, etc...) they are all nif and dds files and when I open them, all I see is a bunch of jumbled gobbly . .. .. .. .. In other words, I don't see the unit or the person. Is there a viewer that can permit me to actually see what that axeman will look like without having to go into the game to see them?

When I use nifskope, all I get is a black background with whie stick-figure movements.

So all your seeing is the bones? You might need to adjust the presets, maybe. There are different settings that control what you see (axis, bones, etc) but I didnt think you had to set the meshes to be visible

SceneViewer would be worth getting as well if all your doing is viewing the unit, as it renders it with the same shaders as the game. Except that team color will be green or pink, and glossy things like armor will appear pinkish if the fx file is not in the folder.

I can't find SceneViewer on google. Do you know of a link?

No. I have too much to learn, I think. But I think, when people are making units, they aren't including all of the necessary files to view it. That is, they change one or two files, but don't include the vanilla files that they didnt need to change.

That is possible but unlikely to be your problem. The only thing that most of the unit makers dont include is the Boundshape.nif and .tga, which probably means they were using nifskope as it doesnt need those (sceneviewer needs those two files to even open the nif). Occasionally a model maker will forget a texture in the folder but some one will very immediately call him out on it.

If they didnt have all the necessary files in the folder than they themselves would be having problems, such as they wouldnt even be able to view thier work.

Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing in nifskope? I cant really determine what youre decribing. You say "stick figure movement" but that doesnt really make sense except if all your viewing is the bones and there isnt a mesh/body.

Yeah, it's the bones. Just thin white lines on a black screen.

All of them. What setting controls the meshes?

Well I didnt know that you could hide the meshes in nifskop but I think I just figured it out. Go to Render then settings. Then check auto detect game paths unless you want to have a custom texture folder. Then in the bottom left make sure in the Render box that atleast the texture and shaders boxes are checked. Then in the bottom right under Culling make sure the "cull non textured" box is not checked. I think that one is your whole problem. Thats the only setting that I can find that would do what you describe.

This is what i see. I tried what you suggested, but I still get the following.

Wow. I cant even tell what it is Im looking at. That doesnt look like a normal skeleton structure of a unit at all. It does look like some part of a units body is in there but I cant tell because your zoomed so far out(almost like a leaderhead instaed of a unit). YOu should also turn of Draw Nodes in render window. But beyond that Im at a loss. SceneViewer is looking like a better and better option for you atleast.
